In the citadel of Waqrapucara, you’ll witness the living history of this ancient civilization as you explore its ruins and listen to the stories that its millennia-old walls hold. Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – km 82 – Huaylla bamba

You will be picked up from your respective hostels between 03:30 to 04:00 am. Then, we’ll head south of the city of Cusco towards the town of Acomayo (3670 meters above sea level), where we’ll enjoy a delicious typical breakfast at a local restaurant. After recharging our energy, we’ll continue the journey to the starting point (a 3-hour drive). Once there, the guide will provide a brief overview of the location, and then we’ll begin our hike towards our destination, Waqra Pucara (4300 meters above sea level).

During the hike, we’ll admire inter-Andean valleys, flora, and fauna such as condors, vizcachas, llamas, and alpacas with their shepherds and farmers who embellish the mountains. The hike takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Once we arrive, we’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the scenery, take spectacular photos, and recharge our energy with the vitality of the Andes.

After the guided tour of the Waqra Pucara citadel, we’ll have our lunch (box lunch). Then, we’ll return to the starting point (parking area) to take the minibus back to Cusco, arriving around 06:00 pm.

NOTE: Travelers who wish to do this hike should be in good physical condition and acclimatize days before. We recommend doing this hike after your visit to Machu Picchu.
