Embark on an enchanting four-day tour to the heart of Puno and the majestic Lake Titicaca, meticulously crafted to deliver an immersive cultural and natural experience.
The Uru people are one of the oldest and most indigenous ethnic groups around Lake Titicaca. They speak Aymara and have lived on the lake since the Incas began expanding their territory over the plateau hundreds of years ago.
The men are expert navigators of the totora rafts, and the women dedicate themselves to embroidering their native textiles. This isolated civilization depends completely on the totora reed. They use it to build their islands, houses, and rafts. They also use it as food and fuel for their community.
8:30 am. Transfer from your hotel. Our transport will take you to the main port or dock. Then, we will begin our trip in a boat or dinghy.
We will head to the floating islands of the Uros. This will take 30 minutes. This excursion allows us to visit one of the most important attractions of the city of Puno, “The floating islands of the Uros.”
The Uros are an ancient town that lives in the middle of the totora, an AYMARA-speaking community that maintains the tradition of artisanal fishing, hunting wild birds and collecting duck eggs.
The men are skilled builders and drivers of totora rafts, and the women are expert weavers. Our guide will explain the daily life of the Uros people. Then, we will take the road back to the city of Puno, arriving at approximately 12:00 pm.
Day 2 begins with a visit to the Uros Floating Islands, followed by a journey to Amantani Island. Travelers spend about two hours exploring Amantani, experiencing its culture and enjoying a local lunch before spending the night on the island.
On Amantani Island, travelers have the opportunity to explore ancient agricultural terraces and pre-Inca ruins, immerse themselves in the local culture, and enjoy leisure time at the island’s summit before a local lunch.
The highlight of Day 3 is the visit to Taquile Island, where travelers can explore its rich history, captivating ruins, stunning landscape, and observe the remarkable craftsmanship of the local weavers, recognized by UNESCO.
Before departure from Puno, travelers visit the awe-inspiring archaeological site of Sillustani to explore ancient pre-Inca burial towers or “chullpas,” providing a glimpse into the area’s prehistoric civilization and offering spectacular views perfect for photography.
The tour concludes on Day 4 with a visit to Sillustani followed by departure from Juliaca Airport to Lima, marking the end of the journey through the historic and scenic regions of Peru.
I had an incredible journey exploring Lake Titicaca and its surrounding islands. The warm welcome upon arrival in Puno set the tone for the trip, and the smooth transfers ensured a hassle-free experience. Visiting the Uros Floating Islands and engaging with the local community was a highlight, followed by an enriching overnight stay on Amantani Island. The exploration of Taquile Island provided insight into its rich history and culture, complemented by stunning landscapes. The excursion to Sillustani offered a fascinating glimpse into ancient civilizations before departing from Juliaca Airport. Overall, it was a memorable and enriching experience that I’ll cherish for years to come.
