In this tour you will appreciate inter-Andean valleys, nature, observe the active Misti Volcano, walk through the crater, and reach the summit (5822 meters above sea level). You will ascend in a group of no more than 10 people.
08:30 a.m. We will pick you up from your hotel, then travel (4×4 vehicle) for 2 hours to the foothills of Misti Volcano, arriving at the western part of the base of the volcano.
10:00 a.m. We reach the shepherds’ place (3400 meters above sea level), the end of the route for our 4×4 vehicle. From here, we will ascend on foot for 6 to 8 hours until we reach the known base camp (Eagles’ Nest, 4750 meters above sea level). Along the trail, we will pass through sandy and slippery sections, requiring good physical condition and acclimatization to the altitude.
04:30 p.m. Arrival at our base camp, where we will have dinner and sleep in our tents.
03:30 a.m. After a good breakfast, we will ascend on foot for 4 to 6 hours, passing through snowy areas depending on the season. We will prepare our climbing equipment such as crampons, ice axe (only during snowy season), and carry only what is necessary for wind and cold conditions.
It is recommended to bring something to drink, energy food, and a first aid kit. The ascent time will depend on the physical condition and acclimatization of each climber. The ascent is vertical to reach the cross located at the summit (5822 meters above sea level). If time and physical condition allow, we will descend into the crater to observe volcanic activity and take a walk around the upper part of the largest crater of the volcano. There will be enough time to take photos and enjoy the landscape and the mountain chain.
02:30 p.m. We will descend to the base camp where we will have lunch, pack our camping equipment, and continue descending to the volcano base where we will take our return vehicle to the city of Arequipa.
The hike is of high difficulty, suitable for people in good physical condition and with experience in high mountain trekking.
It is recommended to bring warm clothing, crampons and an ice axe (during snow season), energy foods, water, and a first aid kit.
You camp at the Eagle’s Nest, located at 4,750 meters above sea level, where dinner is provided, and you sleep in tents.
The maximum altitude is 5,822 meters above sea level, at the summit of Misti Volcano.
Although not essential, having prior climbing and high mountain trekking experience is highly recommended due to the demanding conditions of the route.
The hike to Misti Volcano was an incredible experience. The climb was challenging, but the view from the summit was worth every effort. Our guide was excellent, providing all the necessary help and knowledge. Spending the night at the eagle’s nest and ascending at dawn was magical. A tour I recommend to all adventurers!
