  • Huaynapicchu Mountain: If you want to climb this mountain, you must book well in advance. The climb takes two hours there and back.
  • Machu picchu Mountain: if you want to climb You need to book in advance. its the highest mountain around Machu Picchu,for climbing takes 3 hours up and down.

There are two ways to return from Machu Picchu

Decide how you want to get back to Cusco after visiting Machu Picchu, and pick the option that suits your budget and preferences.

Return by minibus:

If you decide to come back on the minibus, you have to start walking back at 11:00 a.m. from Machu Picchu to Hidrolectrica Station. The walk takes three hours. this walk involves an initial 30–40 minute descent and about 2 hours hours of flat ground next to train tracks. you must be at 02: 30 PM, to catch the minibus, The journey takes about six to seven hours. You will arrive back in Cusco at around 10 p.m. The minibus will drop you off in the centre of Cusco. 

  • The price is for each adult, with minibus option : US$ 250.00
  • The price is for each Student, with minibus option : US$ 230.00 

Return by Train:

The train is usually for 2:30 pm, 2:55 pm and 3:20 pm, upon the availiblitiy. to take the train you must take a bus ( 25 minutes) or walk (1 hour ) down from machu picchu to aguas calientes. once there, spend some time exploring the town or have lunch, you must be at train stations 30 minutes before departure, the journey to ollantaytambo takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. once there, the driver will be waiting for you and you be taken by minibus back to cusco for 1 hour and 40 minutes. you will be dropped off at Plaza Regocijo. which is the end of the tour.

  • Return by bus, If you decide to return by minibus, you must start walking back from Machu Picchu to the Hidrolectrica station at 11:00. This walk involves an initial 30-40 minute descent and about 2 hours of flat ground next to the railway tracks. You must be there at 14:30 to catch the minibus, the journey takes about six to seven hours. You will arrive back in Cusco around 22:00 PM. The minibus will drop you off in the centre of Cusco.
  • Return by train, trains usually run at 14:30, 14:55 and 15:20, depending on availability. to catch the train, you will need to take a bus (25 minutes) or walk (1 hour) from machu picchu to aguas calientes. once there, you will need to be at the train station 30 minutes before the train leaves. once there, you can spend some time exploring the town or have lunch, you must be at the station 30 minutes before the train departs, the journey to ollantaytambo takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes. once there, the driver will be waiting to take you back to cusco by minibus for 1 hour and 40 minutes. you will be dropped off at the plaza regocijo. this is the end of the tour.

  • Extra food and Snacks: You can buy it in Cusco or on the excursion. There are local shops where you can buy cookies, sodas and water..
  • Hot springs: the hot springs in santa teresa town costs 10 Soles and hot springs in Aguas calientes town cost you 20 soles.
  • Extra Hikes in Machu picchu: Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain are optional treks within Machu Picchu Citadel which do not include a guide. The climb is usually done on your own after your tour of Machu Picchu Citadel. If you would like the extra hike to be guided, please request in advance. There is an extra cost for this extra guided tour., Tickets for Huayna Picchu or Machu picchu Mountain: cost them 60 dollars each one
  • Machu Picchu Mountain 65 usd
  • Bus tickets up and down in Machu picchu: The buses going up and down are not included, so you can buy a ticket in Aguas Calientes or after Machu Picchu. It costs 12 dollars for each way, but you can also walk for 1 hour and 30 minutes from Aguas Calientes.

Recommended to carry

  • Original passport: you can't use a copy of your passport; you need to make sure your original passport is valid for at least six months to enter and leave Peru. Also, make sure your passport has two blank pages for the stamps when you come in and out.
  • Student ID: This is only required if you have booked the Salkantay Trek as a student. You must have a student card issued by your university (up to the age of 25). It should contain the following details: university information, personal information, a student photo and a valid date no later than 31 December of the year of travel.
  • Good-quality daypack: It's really important to find a good backpack that's comfortable, light and small, to fill in and carry all your belonging.
  • Botle water or Camel Bag: The bottle needs to hold 2 litres of water. It is important to choose a water bottle that can keep your water cold.
  • Hiking shoes: Make sure they fit well and are broken in.
  • Trekking poles: We really recommend them for the excursion and they are very useful. You can rent them from us.
  • Insect repellent:You will need insect repellent containing 15% deet at least. There have been no reports of malaria risk. This is essential to avoid bites and discomfort.
  • Emergency money: Please remember to bring extra money for any emergencies that might happen on the trip. is ideal to bring 300 soles/90 dollars in cash.
  • Personal Medication: Make sure you take your own medicine and basic first aid kit with you.
Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Abra Malaga – Santa Maria

Morning Departure: Begin your adventure with a pickup from your hotel between 7:00 to 7:30 AM, embarking on a scenic drive to Abra Malaga. This high-altitude pass offers stunning views of the surrounding Andes, setting the stage for the adventure ahead.

Thrilling Downhill Biking: Gear up in provided biking attire and prepare for a thrilling 2 to 3-hour downhill ride. Starting from the icy peaks near Abra Malaga, descend through diverse ecosystems, including misty cloud forests rich in biodiversity, concluding your ride at the archaeological site of Huamanmarca. Explore this lesser-known gem briefly, appreciating its cultural significance and the panoramic views it offers.

Journey to Santa Maria: After your biking adventure, hop on a van to Santa Maria. Enjoy a local lunch before continuing your journey to Santa Teresa. Settle into your accommodation, either in family houses or basic hostels, offering a glimpse into local life.

Optional Rafting: In Santa Maria, take the opportunity to engage in an exhilarating white-water rafting experience on the vibrant rivers, adding an extra dose of adventure to your day.

Evening Preparation: Gather for dinner followed by a detailed briefing to prepare you for the next day’s visit to Machu Picchu, ensuring you’re fully ready for the final ascent.
