You will get to know the natural areas of the White City of Arequipa, the Chili River, and the Colca Canyon. You will experience descending into the second deepest canyon in the world. This hike is an adventure that combines archaeological, colonial, urban, natural, and cultural experiences, allowing you to connect with nature and making your vacation unique. This hike, offered by Arequipa, is the least physically demanding.
Early in the morning, you will pick you up from your hotel, then travel to the town of Chivay (a 3-hour and 30-minute journey). Later, you will arrive in the town of Yanque where we will enjoy a buffet breakfast.
Then, you will continue traveling for 2 more hours until we reach Cruz del Condor. Once there, you will explore for 1 hour to appreciate the flight of the condors and the depth of the Colca Canyon (3207 m.a.s.l.). After enjoying this, you will continue traveling to the town of Cabanaconde where you will have lunch.
13:00: You will descend the canyon and walk for 4 hours and 30 minutes until you reach the Colca River, where you will have a rest while observing the geysers and crossing the hanging bridge in the area.
Later you will arrive at Llahuar, where you can enjoy the thermal baths, get in touch with nature and even go down to the river to fish for trout. Meanwhile, the guide will prepare dinner and you will sleep in typical lodges.
7.30 a.m.: After a good breakfast, you will continue walking for about 4 hours along the right bank of the canyon, passing through the village of Paclla.
At noon you will arrive at the Oasis, a charming place where you can enjoy the pools surrounded by palm trees and get in touch with nature. In the afternoon you will have free time to relax and enjoy the scenery while the guide prepares your meals.
Dinner and overnight in adobe bungalows.
5:00 a.m.: After breakfast you will start the hike again, climbing up the canyon for about 3 hours and 30 minutes until you reach the town of Cabanaconde, where you will take the private bus back to the town of Chivay. On the way you will stop at tourist attractions, the traditional town of Maca and natural viewpoints to observe the pre-Inca terraces in the valley.
At noon you will arrive in Chivay where we will have lunch and visit the La Calera hot springs for 1 hour. Finally we return to the city of Arequipa.
The daily hike varies between 3 to 4 and a half hours, depending on the day and the specific route.
The accommodations include typical lodges in Llahuar and adobe bungalows in the Oasis, providing comfort and authenticity.
In addition to the hike, you can enjoy hot springs, trout fishing in the Colca River, and relaxation in natural pools.
It is not necessary to bring fishing equipment, as you can fish in the Colca River with the resources available at the location.
All meals are included, from the buffet breakfast on the first day to lunches and dinners throughout the three days.
This tour through the Colca Canyon was an incredible experience. The landscapes were spectacular, and the hike, although challenging, was totally worth it. The hot springs in Llahuar were the perfect touch to relax our muscles, and the oasis was an unexpected paradise. The organization of the tour was excellent, and our guide made the whole trip educational and fun. Highly recommended!
