Your adventure begins with a warm welcome in Cusco, where you’ll immerse yourself in the local culture with a comprehensive city tour.

Venture into the Sacred Valley of the Incas, visiting the vibrant markets of Pisac and the ancient fortress of Ollantaytambo. From there, take a scenic train ride to Km 104 Head of the trail, the gateway to majestic short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Experience the magic of watching the sunrise over these ancient ruins and spend the day exploring its many mysteries.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco City Tour.

Upon your arrival at Cusco Airport, a warm welcome awaits you, complete with a transfer to your hotel where a soothing aromatic coca tea, known for its altitude sickness alleviating properties, will help you acclimate.

Enjoy a morning of relaxation or take the opportunity for a light lunch at your accommodation or nearby eateries.

In the afternoon, immerse yourself in the historical splendor of Cusco with a city tour that includes entry to prominent archaeological sites and museums.

Marvel at the Main Square, the majestic Cathedral, and the revered Koricancha (Temple of the Sun). Journey around awe-inspiring sites like the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, Q’enko, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay.

The tour concludes around 6:30 PM, leaving you free to enjoy local cuisine at one of the city’s exquisite restaurants before retiring for the night.

Day 2Sacred Valley - Ollantaytambo

After breakfast, a full day of exploration awaits in the stunning Urubamba Valley, starting at 8:15 AM. Visit the vibrant Indian market in Pisac, a perfect place to experience a rich mixture of colors, traditions, and to engage with local artisans.

Discover Pisac, located at the entrance of the Sacred Valley, followed by a visit to Ollantaytambo, an ancient town continuously inhabited since the Incan era. Its narrow streets and intact Inca-era channels offer a living history lesson.

Enjoy lunch in a traditional restaurant before embarking on a scenic 2-hour train ride to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll spend the night, preparing for the highlight of the tour.

Day 3Ollantaytambo - Short Inca Trail

Early Start: Begin your adventure with a pick-up from your Cusco hotel at 4:00 AM.

Train Journey: Board the train in Ollantaytambo and enjoy a scenic ride through the Sacred Valley for about 1 hour and 15 minutes to Km 104, the official trailhead.

Entering the Inca Trail: Cross the Vilcanota River and embark on the trail, heading towards the archaeological site of Chachabamba. Explore its well-preserved structures and learn about its possible function as a checkpoint or resting point for travelers.

Ascending into the Mountains: The trail gradually climbs towards the cloud forest, offering a change in scenery and a chance to spot diverse flora and fauna.

Lunch Break: Savor a delicious lunch amidst stunning mountain scenery.

Wiñaywayna’s Enchantment: Descend into the lower part of the magnificent ruins of Wiñaywayna, an impressive Inca complex showcasing agricultural terraces, houses, and a ceremonial center.

Sun Gate Glory: Hike the final stretch of the trail, climbing 60 steps to reach the Inti Punku (Sun Gate). Witness the unforgettable sunrise over Machu Picchu, a truly magical experience.

Descent to Aguas Calientes: Descend towards the town of Aguas Calientes, located at the base of Machu Picchu, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable hotel.

Day 4Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

Early Rise and Machu Picchu Awaits: Grab an early breakfast and catch one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu to avoid crowds.

Guided Tour: Join a comprehensive 2-hour guided tour of Machu Picchu, delving into the history, architecture, and significance of this remarkable citadel. Explore the various sectors, including the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana (Sun Hitching Post), and the intricate agricultural terraces.

Optional Hike: If you have booked in advance, conquer the challenging but rewarding hike to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for breathtaking panoramic views.

Descent and Return: Descend back to Aguas Calientes, board the train back to Ollantaytambo, and take a bus back to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon.

 

Day 5Cusco - Rainbow Mountain

Your adventure begins with an early pickup from your Cusco hotel, scheduled between 4:00 to 4:45 AM. We’ll embark on a southward journey towards Cusipata, nestled at an elevation of 3,310 meters (10,859 feet), which we’ll reach after a 2-hour drive.

Upon arrival in Cusipata, we’ll fuel up with a hearty continental breakfast, setting the stage for the day’s trek. Post-breakfast, our van takes us further to Phula Wasipata, the trek’s starting point, situated at 4,326 meters (14,189 feet).

The highlight of our journey, a 1:30-hour hike, leads us to the awe-inspiring Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), standing tall at 5,020 meters (16,466 feet). Here, amidst the world’s unique geological marvel, you’ll have ample time to soak in the views, capture photos, and explore.

We’ll trek back to our starting point, a journey of approximately 1 to 1:30 hours, before returning to Cusipata for a well-deserved delicious lunch. Satisfied from our trek and lunch, we embark on a 3-hour bus ride back to Cusco, aiming to arrive between 4:00 to 5:00 PM.

Day 6Cusco - Airport - Lima

After breakfast at your hotel in Cusco.

You’ll be picked up by your driver and transferred to Cusco airport in time for your flight back to Lima.
