Manager
PERU TRAVEL COMPANY
It is a local company founded in the city of Cusco, by William Gonzales G, Nero, Charli as he is known to most of his friends and official tour guide. Since he was a child he has lived in the Andes, At the age of 14, he started working in livestock farming with his parents, then they decided to open a family restaurant called ‘El Rancho del Cuy’ where they serve the traditional dishes of cuy al horno, cuy chactado and chiriuchu, typical dishes of the Cusco region.
The restaurant is located in the village of Tipon, 21 km south of the city of Cusco, Later on he worked as a taxi driver on the route from the village of Choque pata ‘Tipon’ to the archaeological complex of Tipon, taking national and foreign passengers.
This experience inspired him to study to become an Official Tourist Guide, and with the help of the restaurant ‘El Rancho del Cuy’ he began to pay for his studies to become an Official Tourist Guide. Growing up and living in the Andes has made him appreciate the mountains and explore his heritage.
After graduating, he began an internship at the Inca Museum and the Temple of the Sun (Cori Cancha). He later worked as an official guide on the traditional Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.
He also realised alternative routes such as the Salkantay Trek, Choquequirao, the Lares Valley, Ausangate, the Inca Jungle and other excursions.
All of this allowed him to acquire a wealth of experience and learn enough to appreciate the hard work performed by porters and muleteers, and to observe the growth of agencies and how they took advantage of guides, muleteers, cooks, and drivers by paying them less than minimum wage.
He decided to open his own travel agency, which he called “Perú Travel Company”, a name inspired by his country, Peru, the land of his birth, as well as its rich history of more than 10,000 years and its three regions: coast, mountains and jungle.
All this full of experience and knowing enough to appreciate the hard work of the porters and muleteers and seeing the growth of the agencies and how they took advantage of the guides, muleteers, cooks and drivers by paying them less than the regular salary, he decided to open his own company whose name he gave ‘Peru Travel Company’, a name that inspired him in his country Peru. The land where he was born, also because of its rich history dating back more than 10,000 thousand years and its three regions: coast, highlands and jungle.
The idea was and is to make a difference by paying them a fair and legal wage, from the first trip they started until today.
Today Peru Travel pays good salaries to all its employees, contributing to a good quality of life for their families, in contrast to the rise of other exploitative agencies that are based solely on exploiting and mistreating their employees, especially porters, cooks, guides and transporters, by paying them low salaries.
