In this tour, you will appreciate inter-Andean valleys, nature, oases, and observe the second deepest canyon in the world. This tour combines adventure, archaeological, colonial, urban, natural, and cultural experiences.
Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your respective hotel in Arequipa, then travel to the city of Chivay (3 hours and 30 minutes journey). Later, we will arrive at the town of Yanque where we will enjoy a delicious buffet breakfast. After breakfast, we will continue for approximately 2 hours to Cruz del Condor, where we will observe the condors flying in their natural habitat and the depth of the canyon (3207 meters above sea level) for about 1 hour.
At 10:30 a.m., we will reach the San Miguel viewpoint and immediately start descending into the canyon (approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes).
At 1:00 p.m., we will cross the hanging bridge, take a break, and continue hiking to the community of San Juan de Chuccho. Here, the guide will prepare lunch while the group rests. After lunch, we will continue the hike, passing through the small villages of Malata and Cosñinhua, where we will learn about their customs and stories with the local farmers.
By 5:00 p.m., we will arrive at the Oasis, a peaceful and charming place where we will enjoy its pools, surrounded by palm trees and adobe shelters (bungalows). We will have dinner and spend the night there.
At 5:00 a.m., we will ascend the canyon on foot for approximately 3 hours until we reach the town of Cabanaconde, where we will have breakfast and visit the town. Later, we will take our vehicle to the town of Chivay, stopping along the way at tourist stops in the traditional town of Maca and natural viewpoints where we will observe pre-Inca terraces in the valley.
By 12:30 p.m., we will arrive in Chivay where we will have lunch and free time for 1 hour to immerse ourselves in La Calera hot springs. After enjoying ourselves, we will return to the city of Arequipa, making tourist stops at the national reserve (Mirador de los Volcanes at 4910 meters above sea level with llamas and alpacas that graze in these inter-Andean valleys). Finally, we will arrive in the city of Arequipa.
The daily hike varies between 3 to 3 and a half hours, depending on the day and the terrain conditions.
Accommodation is provided in adobe bungalows in the Oasis, offering a comfortable and authentic experience.
All meals are included: buffet breakfast, lunches, and dinners during the two days of the tour.
Although not essential, having good physical condition will help you enjoy the hike better due to the descents and ascents in the canyon.
It is recommended to bring comfortable walking clothes, sunscreen, water, a hat, hiking shoes, and a swimsuit to enjoy the pools in the Oasis.
The one-day tour from Puno to Taquile Island was an incredibly enriching and memorable experience. From the moment we set off by boat on the majestic Lake Titicaca, I knew this would be a special day. The views of the lake and the mountains were simply breathtaking.
