The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of the most popular trekking routes in South America. It is frequented by adventurers from around the world who come to visit Peru. You will embark on stunning mountain landscapes, inter-Andean valleys, mysterious archaeological complexes, and the stone city of Machu Picchu. The Inca Trail is a pilgrimage to a sacred city and is also considered a hike that can spiritually change your life.
We will pick you up from your hotel at 4:00 am and then take you to the Ollantaytambo train station (1 hour and 30 minutes journey). You will board the train that will take you to Km 104, the starting point of the trek. Upon disembarking, the guide will accompany you to the Chachabamba checkpoint where we will register (please bring your original passport).
We will then walk 5 minutes to the first archaeological complex of Chachabamba for a guided tour. Afterward, we ascend along the Inca Trail towards the second archaeological complex of Wiñay Wayna (2900 meters above sea level). Along the way, we will admire beautiful waterfalls and views of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
After visiting Wiñay Wayna, we proceed to the Wiñay Wayna checkpoint where we stop for lunch (box lunch). Later, we hike for approximately 2 hours until we reach Inti Punku (Sun Gate), from where we will observe the sunset over the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
After taking a group photo and enjoying the panoramic views, we descend to the Ruinas Bridge where we camp in tents and have dinner.
After a good breakfast, we hike for 1 hour to the Machu Picchu Inca citadel. Upon arrival, we register and then begin the guided tour of Machu Picchu. During the guided tour, our guide will explain the most important sectors of the stone city of Machu Picchu, including agricultural terraces, temples, ceremonial water fountains, plazas, and various types of constructions.
The guided tour takes approximately 2-3 hours. For those adventurers who have pre-booked the Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, you will climb at your assigned time (1 hour up and 1 hour down). After enjoying the visit to Machu Picchu, you will return to the town of Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo and then the bus back to Cusco.
On the first day, the hike lasts approximately 6-7 hours, and on the second day, around 1 hour to reach Machu Picchu.
The tour includes transportation from Cusco, train rides to Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes, a professional guide, entrance fees to the archaeological sites, meals, and camping equipment.
Yes, it is mandatory to carry the original passport for checks at Chachabamba and Machu Picchu.
The hike is of moderate difficulty, requiring good physical condition due to the ascents and descents at high altitude.
We will camp in the designated area near the Ruinas Bridge, providing an authentic experience close to nature.
The two-day Inca Trail trek was an absolutely amazing experience. From the flawless organization to the stunning beauty of Wiñay Wayna and Machu Picchu, every moment was magical. Camping near Machu Picchu and seeing the citadel at sunrise was a dream come true. Our guide was exceptional and very knowledgeable about Inca history and culture. I recommend this tour to all adventure and history enthusiasts.
