The Rainbow Mountain (traditionally known as VINICUNCA or Montaña de Colores) is one of Peru’s newest adventures and best natural attractions. Located 100 kilometers from the city of Cusco, it sits at an altitude of 5100 meters above sea level. It is a natural formation discovered by nature itself, dyed with colors including red, purple, green, yellow, pink, and other shades. Since 2016, this tourist attraction has been the second most visited after Machu Picchu, drawing numerous visitors to marvel at its breathtaking beauty.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Cusipata – Panpachiri – Montaña De Colores – Cusco

You are picked up from your respective hostel between 04:30 to 05:00 am, then we travel to the south of Cusco until we arrive to the town of CUSIPATA (2 hours of travel), place; where we have breakfast, then we travel to the starting point of the hike PAMPA CHIRI – PITUMARCA, (1h/30m of travel). once we arrive, our guide informs us about the path and the mountains that surround this natural place.

The hike takes 1h/30m hour walk with a distance of approximately 5 km to reach the top of the colorful mountain VININCUNCA (height 5100 m.a.s.l.), along the way we will observe flora and fauna such as llamas, alpacas and birds that embellish this magnificent place.

Once we reach the top we will have enough time to explore it and take the best pictures, after 1h/30m of visit; we begin to descend to the starting point to take the minibus back to the restaurant where we have lunch, finally after a nap we return to Cusco. Arriving 4:30 pm to 5:00 pm.

Embarking on the Rainbow Mountain Adventure was an exhilarating journey that left us in awe of the natural wonders of Peru. Our day began bright and early with a prompt pickup from our hostel in Cusco, setting the tone for an adventure-packed day ahead.

As we traveled through the picturesque landscapes of the Cusco region, our anticipation grew, and upon reaching Cusipata, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast to fuel our adventure. The journey continued to the starting point of the hike at Pampa Chiri – Pitumarca, where our knowledgeable guide briefed us on the trail and the surrounding mountains.
