Embark on an exciting expedition to the dazzling Laguna Huamantay, located at 4200 meters above sea level, whose name comes from the snowy peak that feeds it. This natural wonder is considered a treasure akin to the famous Laguna 69 near the city of Cusco. Its turquoise waters, reflecting its beauty, captivate every traveler who has the privilege of visiting this place. Additionally, you’ll be able to admire the imposing presence of Apu Salkantay, a majestic peak rising 6270 meters above sea level, adding an extra dose of grandeur to this unforgettable experience. Get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature and be amazed by the magic of these spectacular Andean landscapes!
You will be picked up from your respective hostel in Cusco between 4:00 am and 4:30 am. Then we will travel to the town of Mollepata (2 hours away), where we will have breakfast to recharge our energy. Next, we will travel for another hour until we reach the starting point Challacancha (3800 meters above sea level).
Once there, the guide will inform us about the trail, and then we will begin to ascend towards our destination, Laguna Humantay (4200 meters above sea level). This hike takes approximately 2 hours. The trail has steep parts, but our guide will allow you to take enough time to enjoy it without feeling the difficulty and tiredness. During the hike, we will appreciate the majestic snowy peaks of Apu Salkantay and Humantay, protective guardian deities.
Once we reach the top of Laguna Humantay, we will have enough time to enjoy it and take the best photos. Later, we will return to the starting point to take the minibus that will take us to the restaurant where we will enjoy a delicious lunch. After recharging our energy and taking a nap, we will finally return to the city of Cusco, arriving between 6:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
It is recommended to bring comfortable and suitable clothing for walking, including a waterproof jacket, sturdy walking shoes, a hat or cap, sunscreen, and water to stay hydrated during the hike.
The hike to Humantay Lake is of moderate difficulty, with some steep sections. It is recommended to be in good physical condition to fully enjoy the experience.
